The Red Lion Area School District requests that medication be given before or after school hours whenever possible. We recognize that there are times when this is not possible- if it is essential that your child receive ANY medication(s) during school hours, the following information must be completed before the medication can be given. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION TO SCHOOL WITH THE CHILD- AN ADULT MUST DELIVER IT TO THE HEALTH ROOM.
When it is necessary for your child to receive medication during the school day, a medication order written by your health care provider with his/her signature and specific directions must be provided to the school and a consent to administer medication must be signed by parent/guardian. A paper copy can be brought in or your provider can fax it to us.
Any medication, prescribed or over-the-counter, must be brought to school by a responsible adult, in the original container and must be labeled as follows:
1. Name of student 3. Dosage of medication
2. Name of medication 4. Time to be administered
All medications will be kept in the health room. Your child should report to the health room when scheduled to take the medication. Any unused medication will be destroyed unless a responsible adult collects it from school
Students are NOT allowed to carry their own medication. The exception to this is emergency epipen or inhaler at the secondary level. Students with prescribed epipen and/or inhaler may carry and self-administer their emergency medicine if their health care provider has given written permission and the parent/guardian has given written consent.
The student must demonstrate proper use and technique for self-administration to the school nurse.
The student must notify the school nurse immediately following the use of the asthma inhaler/epipen.
The school bears no responsibility for ensuring that the medication is taken or properly self-administered.
If the student abuses or ignores this privilege, school personnel may confiscate the asthma inhaler/EpiPen and they will lose the privilege to carry the medication.
